His Beatitude Metropolitan +Amvrosij is the Primate of the Ukranian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church established by a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.
When Cardinal Slipyj was trying to unite East and West, he was approaching retirement, so he consecrated Archbishop +Amvrosij and ordered him to help unite the Churches. Cardinal Slipyj established an independent, autocephelous Church to strategically position itself as a bridge for East and West.
Cardinal Slipyj sent Archbishop Amvrosij to the United States with jurisdiction over North and South America with dependencies (Africa and other countries).
Archbishop +Amvrosij also was consecrated a Metropolitan Archbishop in Chicago with the Orthodox Church of America. The consecrating bishops who were present included Eastern Rite (Melkite Catholic Church in union with Rome) and Orthodox bishops.
The Archbishop of Constantinople - New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch blessed Archbishop Metropolitan +Amvrosij with the highest honor that the East can offer to a hierarch.
Patriarch +Bartholomew knows that the Archbishop has been working on uniting East and West for the last 50 years and sends a special blessing to honor him and the jurisdiction.
His Beatitude will continue this work for Jesus Christ and His Church and will continue to be guided by heaven to do just that.
The jurisdiction that Archbishop +Amvrosij rules is North and South America and dependencies. The Archbishop has over 80 priests throughout the world and they continue the work of uniting East and West.
