A Roman Cardinal established a new jurisdiction that is sui juris, canonical and autocephelous. Josyf Cardinal Slipyj established this Church to bring unity between the Ukrainian Catholics and Ukrainian Orthodox who were working well together. After the Cardinal was released from Russian exile, he did not want the Catholic and Orthodox faithful to suffer through separation of their churches, so he created unity through an "oasis."
Cardinal Slipyj knew that the "bridge" between East and West has to be an "oasis" that will teach the East about the West and the West about the East. The "oasis" is the jurisdiction that Cardinal Slipyj established for the Ukrainian Catholics and the Ukrainian Orthodox. Over the last 50 years this "oasis" now is the Ukrainian Orthodox Greek Catholic Archdiocese of North and South America and dependencies.
Cardinal Slipyj commanded Archbishop +Ambrose to continue the efforts of this jurisdiction and bring unity between East and West. The jurisdiction dispenses the Sacraments in both the Catholic and Orthodox rites as Archbishop +Ambrose has apostolic lineage that traces back to St. Peter. Having a Church that is in union with both East and West with no conflicts is an amazing way to live the fullness of the faith.
The Ecumenical Patriarch recently affirmed the work of the jurisdiction and sent a letter recognizing our Independent, canonical, sui juris jurisdiction. His all Holiness is open and interested in supporting this jurisdiction in a heartfelt way as he sees that unity can be possible through our efforts and experience.
